Welcome to the International Lute Days!
The Dutch Lute Association is once again organizing an event around the lute during and in collaboration with the Utrecht Early Music Festival. These International Lute Days around the Style galante focus mainly on an aspect of the lute that has received little attention until now: the role of the lute in chamber music as it developed in the course of the eighteenth century. This particularly concerns the evolution of the lute into an ensemble instrument with a string trio or quartet, but also the solo lute music from the late 18th century will be performed.
In the Symposium's lectures, attention is paid to the context in which music developed from the Baroque to the Classical style as we know it from the early Haydn and Mozart. In addition, attention is paid to female lute players, the late forms of the lute and performance practice.
But there is more: a workshop for players who want to get acquainted with music from this transition period, masterclasses by Robert Barto for lute students and advanced amateurs, and flash lessons for those who want to learn what it is like to play the lute. So these International Lute Days have something to offer for all lovers of lute music and chamber music, for people interested in background information as well as for beginners and advanced lute players.
The Early Music Festival has also included lute concerts during the International Lute Days. These are referred to in the program as Festival Oude Muziek.
